Program 5S pada Kegiatan Pengenalan Lapangan Persekolahan sebagai Upaya Penguatan Karakter Siswa

Abstract

The development of students' disciplinary character is an essential aspect of education, as it fosters responsibility, compliance with school regulations, and positive behavior in the school environment. One strategy to strengthen disciplinary character is through the implementation of positive school culture based on consistent daily habituation. This community service program aimed to implement the 5S Program (Smile, Greeting, Salutation, Politeness, and Courtesy) through the School Field Introduction Program (Pengenalan Lapangan Persekolahan/PLP) to strengthen students' disciplinary character at SMAN 5 Mataram. The program employed a participatory approach consisting of needs assessment, program planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. Activities were conducted every morning before classroom instruction and involved pre-service teachers participating in PLP, supervising teachers, school staff, and students. Data were collected through observation, documentation, field notes, and reflective discussions, and were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach. The results indicate that the 5S Program was successfully implemented according to the planned activities and received positive responses from the school community. The habituation of smiling, greeting, salutation, politeness, and courtesy encouraged more positive interactions between teachers and students, increased students' awareness of greeting teachers, improved courteous behavior, enhanced school orderliness, and strengthened a culture of discipline within the school environment. In addition, the program enriched the professional experience of pre-service teachers by providing authentic opportunities to design and implement character education programs collaboratively with schools. Therefore, the 5S Program has the potential to become a sustainable school culture for strengthening students' disciplinary character when consistently supported by all members of the school community
