Penataan Taman Literasi melalui Program Penanaman Bunga Gantung untuk Mendukung Lingkungan Belajar yang Asri di SMAN 2 Mataram

Abstract

This community service program aimed to describe the arrangement of a literacy garden through a hanging-flower planting program at SMAN 2 Mataram and to examine student involvement in school greening activities. The program employed a participatory approach involving 36 students from Grade XI Science 6, 11 teaching practicum students, and 3 supervising teachers. The activities included identifying the initial condition of the garden, preparing tools and materials, producing planting containers from discarded plastic bottles, planting moss roses, installing the hanging plants, and conducting initial plant monitoring. Data were collected through activity documentation, implementation notes, and observations of plant conditions. The data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach supported by simple calculations of student participation and plant survival rates. The results showed that 16 hanging plants were successfully installed in the literacy garden. Eighteen of the 36 students participated actively, resulting in an active participation rate of 50 percent. Initial monitoring indicated that 14 of the 16 plants remained in good condition, representing a survival rate of 87.5 percent. The program demonstrates that simple vertical greening using discarded plastic bottles can provide a space-efficient alternative for improving school gardens while offering students direct experience in managing their environment. Long-term continuity, however, requires regular maintenance, clear distribution of responsibilities, and integration of the garden into learning activities.
